Joseph Johnson brings 31 years of experience in risk management and claims administration to his position of Vice President of the Brown & Brown of Louisiana Lafayette office. An alumnus of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Joe has earned his professional designation as an Associate in Risk Management. He is presently working on earning his Rims Fellowship professional designation.
Prior to joining Brown & Brown, Joe was the Risk Manager of the number one Heavy Highway Contractor in six southeastern states, which was a 2010 ENR 400 company. His responsibilities included the development and maintenance of positive working relationships with underwriters, brokers and Third Party Administrators, as well as the management of all aspects of Property and Casualty and Employee Benefits programs. He was also responsible for the conceptual design and ultimate formation of an 831(b) small insurance company (Captive) domiciled in South Carolina. As Vice President of this small insurance company his responsibilities included negotiation of agreements with various professional service providers and ongoing communication with captive managers, attorneys, actuaries, insurance and banking professionals in the management of the Captive.
Joe's industry experience includes work with contractors, stevedores, marine towing operators and shipyards. Over the years he has been active in the New Orleans Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, the Offshore Marine Services Association, the Associated General Contractors, and the American Building Contractors. Joe has authored numerous articles on the topics of Risk Management and Risk Control – and his demonstrated strengths include creativity, problem solving, listening, coaching and leadership.
Joe is a member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association, and is an approved Captive Manager in the State of South Carolina.
